Parenting has always been a hard job, there is no question about that, but it certainly doesn't help to have your routine interrupted by a pandemic. Some of you may be experiencing increased stress and conflict in your household, as a result of being cooped up together with limited activity options. If you find yourself struggling with a specific age related challenge, or just want some strategies on how to improve your relationship or communication with your child, then I would highly recommend checking out Aha! Parenting. I love this website and use it frequently in my work, as it offers a wide variety of information organized by age group and topic. It is also authored by a professional in the field and offers evidenced-based strategies, so you can rest assured the information is legitimate.
Remember, being a parent does not make you subhuman. It's okay to need help. It's okay to not know everything. And it's also okay to be struggling. Your role as a parent is one of the most valuable and important roles one can have in life. Just like we want our firefighters to be well trained and equipped before running into burning buildings, we want our parents to well trained and equipped to put out any metaphorical (or sometimes literal) fires that come their way.
As always, thanks for reading.
You matter.
